» Look At What Fake Nails Did To My Natural Nails!Brown Beauty Babe

For years I was content with my own natural nails. Then, a friend of mine was getting married and asked us bridesmaids to get fake nails for the wedding.  I got them and they were beautiful! I loved my new nails…until it came time to get them removed. The removal left my nails all kind of ugly!  I work in a cooperate environment, where I have to constantly shake hands, so this wasn’t going to work!  I did the only thing that made sense at the time, which was to get the fake nails put back on :(

It’s 3 years later and I finally had the nails removed, and for good (I hope)! I will never (pray for me y’all) get fake nails again and here’s why:

1.  It’s so damaging to your real nails.  My real nails were so healthy and nice. After getting fake nails, your nails become so weak and brittle.  It can take months to get them back to a healthy state.

2. Typing sucks.  If you work at a computer and have fake nails, then you know what I’m talking about.  The nails slip right off the damn keys! UGH!  My typing speed was decreased by 20 words per minute!  Now that I took those talons off, I can type nearly 70 WPM again!

3.  Breaking a nail hurts like hell.  Have you ever broken your nail with a fake nail attached to it?  You may as well rip your entire finger off! It’s a pain like no other!  Because the fake nail is glued down to your nail and lacks the flexibility of natural nails, the pain is multiplied!  A chip is more like half a nail goes missing, if you’re lucky.  If you’re not so lucky, like me, it means the entire nail rips off and takes some of your skin with it! Flashbacks!!! Oh the pain!

4.  The upkeep ain’t cheap.  You have to service these things more than your car!  Every 2 weeks you have to go in for a fill, unless your want to walk around with the double nail bed look.  It’s not attractive. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to be pampered every 2 weeks, but I’m sure you can find other ways to pamper yourself, other than killing of your natural nails.

(Look at this brittle mess!)

Admittedly, I will miss how effortlessly gorgeous my nails look, but I’ve decided that I want freedom over this nail oppression!  Now that my little rant is over, let’s see how I can keep up with my poor little natural nails. Ugh!

What are some of your experiences with getting your nails done?  I wanna know!

I equate fake nails to perms. Once you start, you have to continue because of the damage done. I prefer just to keep my own nails filed and polished even if the piolish doesn’t last as long.

I can definitely relate. The most difficult part is nuturing the nails back to its healthy and original state. I’m actually half way through into getting my nails back. I use almond oil to massage it and garlic and or calcium treatment on them.
